With the acquisition of the HP Metal Jet S100, AMES has also added Binder Jetting additive manufacturing technology to its technology offering.
What is Binder Jetting?
Binder Jetting is a 3D printing process that uses a metal powder bed combined with a binder to create metal parts layer by layer.
Key benefits of Binder Jetting
- Design freedom: parts of extremely high geometric complexity that would not be possible with other forming technologies
- Low cost mass production: competitive additive manufacturing for batches of less than 50 000 parts per year
- No moulds or tooling: minimum investment and reduced development time
- High quality materials: mechanical properties similar to MIM
- Sustainability: maximum powder consumption
How is such a part made?
- DESIGN: The part is designed together with the customer to optimise the geometry according to the function.
- PRINTING: Selective deposition of the liquid binder on a metallic powder bed to make the particles adhere to each other and create the geometry of the part layer by layer, resulting in a green part.
- DEPOWDERING: Removal of excess dust and cleaning of the green parts.
- SINTERING: Sintering of parts under controlled atmosphere and temperature conditions to ensure the mechanical properties of the material without melting.
- FINISHING: Additional operations to improve surface finish, dimensional accuracy or material properties (if required).
Who is the ideal choice for?
Binder Jetting is the ideal solution for those who want to produce metal parts in medium/low volume production without design constraints, quickly, cost-effectively and with low environmental impact.
Metal Binder Jetting technology combines innovative moulding processes through additive manufacturing with traditional powder metallurgy processes to achieve mass production of highly complex metal parts at competitive costs.
